Homework #4
1)Describe Cannon Law.
Cannon law is the laws of the church. The Church established Cannon law to wield power over political rulers. They would threaten the king with excommunication and interdict. Interdict is when a pope would ban all sacraments and religious services from that king’s land, this would be the worst because the king’s subjects believed that if they didn’t have many of the sacraments and religious services they would be doomed to eternal suffering in hell after they die.
2)Describe what might happen to a person, like a king, who didn’t follow cannon law?
If a king didn’t follow cannon law the Pope can punish the king meaning along with the king his people will be punished also. The two hardest punishments a king can get are excommunication and interdict.
